Best Keyword Research Service Provider

The best keyword research service providers are the ones that check each keyword against the live Google results, group keywords by intent, and tell you which page to build for each group. A spreadsheet of 500 phrases with volumes is not a service; any tool exports that. Below I compare five providers, plus freelancers and DIY tools, on price, method and deliverable, with a clear pick for each type of business.

Disclosure: Skyranko publishes this post, and Skyranko sells keyword research. We’re one of the five options below. I’ve judged every provider, including us, on the same criteria and used only prices and scope published on each provider’s own site in September 2026. Discount my opinion of our service accordingly.

The Mistake Most Buyers Make: Paying per Keyword

Most people compare a keyword research company on one number: how many keywords you get for the money. That is the wrong number.

A list of 100 keywords where 40 need the same page, 20 are informational queries you’ll never convert, and 10 are dominated by Amazon and Wikipedia is worth less than a list of 25 that are checked and mapped. What decides the value is the work done on each keyword, not the count.

So when I look at any keyword research agency, ours included, I ask what happens between “export from a tool” and “hand to the client”. If the honest answer is “nothing”, you’re paying for a tool export.

How We Judged the Best Keyword Research Service Providers

  1. Manual SERP checks. Does someone look at the real results page for each keyword to confirm intent and competition?
  2. Grouping and mapping. Do you get clusters and a page assignment (keyword mapping), or a flat list?
  3. Transparent scope and price. Can you see what you’ll get before you pay?
  4. Fit for business size. Is it priced and scoped for a small site, a SaaS team or an enterprise?
  5. Turnaround. How long from order to delivery?

Loganix: Best for a Fast One-Off Report

Loganix keyword research service page

Best for: a small business or content site that wants a quick, done-for-you starting list.

Loganix’s keyword research service costs $149. You give them your domain, target location and up to 5 seed topics, and an SEO on their team returns an action-oriented report with keywords sorted by intent (transactional, informational and so on) and grouped by topic. Delivery is roughly 2 business days, which is the fastest on this list.

Weaknesses: 5 topics is a narrow scope for a site with many services. And a report is not a map: you’ll still need to decide which page each group becomes. If you’re doing it yourself, start from my keyword research template.

ExertPro: Best for a Tight Budget or a Niche Site

ExertPro keyword research service page

Best for: affiliate and niche site owners who want data points on a small list without spending much.

ExertPro publishes three packages: $99 for 20 keywords with a 3-day turnaround, $139 for 40 keywords in 5 days, and $199 for 50 keywords in 7 days. Each includes search volume, CPC, competition, trend data, ranking probability and a content strategy note.

Weaknesses: the offer is priced per keyword, which is exactly the trap I described above. ExertPro is also mainly a white-label WordPress agency, so keyword research is one of many services rather than the core focus.

Skyranko: Best When You Need a Topical Map (Our Own Service)

Skyranko keyword research service page

Best for: small businesses, bloggers and ecommerce teams who want to know what to publish, in what order, on which URL.

Our keyword research service runs $99–$499 per project. The $99 tier covers 2 topics and 20 keywords with manual SERP analysis in 5 days; the $199 tier adds Search Console analysis, topic clusters and internal link suggestions; the $499 tier covers 10 topics and a full topical map in 10 days. You can test it on 5 keywords free before paying anything.

For context on track record: Skyranko has worked in SEO since 2018 and delivered 348 projects. Our best-known result came from one client campaign that combined keyword research, content and links, which grew organic traffic 700% in 4 months. That was a full campaign, not keyword research alone, and I’d be misleading you if I credited the list by itself.

Weaknesses, honestly: we are slower than Loganix, because checking every results page by hand takes time. We’re a team in Rajshahi and Sheridan, not a 750-person agency, so we don’t run enterprise-scale research across dozens of markets at once. And yes, we priced the entry tier per keyword too; the difference is the SERP check behind each one.

WebFX: Best When Research Is Part of a Big Retainer

WebFX keyword research services page

Best for: mid-size and larger companies that want one agency to research, write and implement.

WebFX lists keyword research as part of custom SEO plans starting at $3,000 per month, with competitor analysis, keyword mapping and access to its own reporting platform. Its page cites a team of 750+ digital experts.

Weaknesses: you can’t buy the research on its own, so it’s the wrong choice if you only need a plan. At that budget, you’re paying for execution.

Authority Magnet Co: Only if You’re a SaaS Company on Retainer

Authority Magnet Co keyword research service page as it looked in 2024

When we first published this list, Authority Magnet Co offered custom keyword research projects. That has changed. In September 2026 their site focuses on SaaS SEO and AI search visibility, with retainers starting at $5,000 per month and no standalone keyword research package listed.

Best for: funded SaaS companies that want research folded into a full growth program. For everyone else, they’re no longer a keyword research option, and I’d rather tell you that than leave an outdated recommendation up.

What About a Freelance Keyword Research Consultant?

Upwork, Fiverr and PeoplePerHour are full of keyword research freelancers, and prices range from a few dollars to agency rates. Quality ranges just as widely.

Freelance work goes well when the buyer asks for the method, not the keyword count. Ask for one sample SERP note: which URLs rank, what intent that shows, and why the keyword is or isn’t worth targeting. A good keyword research consultant will explain that in plain language. A tool reseller won’t.

Can You Skip the Provider and Use Tools Yourself?

Yes, if you have the time and some SEO experience. These are the tools most providers use under the hood.

Google Keyword Planner landing page

Google Keyword Planner is free inside a Google Ads account. It’s built for advertisers, so volumes often come as broad ranges and competition refers to ad bidding, not organic difficulty.

Ahrefs free SEO tools page with the keyword generator

Ahrefs free tools include a keyword generator and a difficulty checker. Useful for spot checks, too limited for a full project.

Ubersuggest homepage search box

Ubersuggest offers a small number of free searches per day with volume and difficulty estimates.

AnswerThePublic search page

AnswerThePublic turns autocomplete data into questions people ask. Great for content ideas; pair it with a tool that shows volume.

Semrush homepage search box

Semrush is the heavy option. Its Keyword Magic Tool and Topic Research are powerful, and the price reflects that.

KWFinder keyword search page

KWFinder by Mangools is a friendlier, cheaper middle ground with a built-in SERP view.

Be realistic about the hours. Pulling seeds, filtering junk, opening dozens of results pages and grouping what’s left is slow, fiddly work the first time, and most owners I talk to underestimate it by a wide margin. If your hourly rate is high, a $99 project is cheap; if you enjoy the detective work, the tools will teach you a lot about your market.

Tools give you data, not decisions. If you go this route, pair them with Search Console; our guide to Google Search Console keyword research shows how to find the queries you’re already close to ranking for.

So Which Provider Should You Hire?

For most small businesses and content sites, a provider that checks the SERP by hand and maps keywords to pages is worth more than a bigger list. If you need speed and a narrow scope, Loganix is the pick. If you need a publishing plan, pick a provider that delivers clusters and a topical map, which is what we built our service to do.

I know how that last line reads coming from us. So here is the test I’d apply to any provider, including Skyranko: order the smallest package, or the free trial where one exists, and judge the deliverable against the five criteria above. Within 7 days you’ll know whether the work behind the list is real.

When Should You Pick a Different Provider Than Our Verdict Says?

  • If you’re a SaaS company with a $5,000+ monthly budget → a SaaS-focused retainer agency will cover research, content and links in one contract. On a smaller budget, my keyword research for SaaS walkthrough shows how to rank terms by how close each searcher is to a signup.
  • If you need research, writing and implementation from one team at scale → a large agency like WebFX makes more sense than a research-only provider.
  • If you only need volumes for 20 keywords you’ve already chosen → ExertPro’s $99 package or a tool subscription is cheaper than a mapped plan.
  • If you need results in 48 hours → Loganix’s turnaround beats ours.

What Should You Ask a Keyword Research Company Before Paying?

  1. Do you check the live results page for every keyword, or only volume and difficulty?
  2. Will I get keyword groups with a target URL for each, or a flat list?
  3. Can I see a sample deliverable?
  4. How do you handle keywords my site can’t realistically win yet?
  5. What happens if I disagree with part of the research?

Any provider worth hiring will answer all five without hesitation.

Frequently Asked Questions

How Much Does a Keyword Research Service Cost in 2026?

One-off projects from the providers above run from $99 to $499. Agencies that only sell research inside a retainer start around $3,000–$5,000 per month. Freelancers range from very cheap to agency rates, so judge them on method, not price.

Is a Keyword Research Agency Worth It for a Small Business?

It’s worth it when you don’t have the time or experience to check intent and competition yourself. A good one-off project saves you from writing content that can’t rank. If you already know your 20 target keywords, a tool may be enough.

How Long Does Professional Keyword Research Take?

Between 2 and 10 days for a one-off project, depending on scope and how much manual SERP work is done. Faster isn’t always worse, but a provider promising hundreds of hand-checked keywords overnight is not checking them by hand.

What Should a Keyword Research Deliverable Include?

At minimum: each keyword’s intent, volume, difficulty, the ranking competitors, and a target page. The better deliverables add clusters, a content priority order and internal link suggestions, so you can start writing the same week.
